Come molti della mia generazione mi sono avvicinato alla scrittura di Sclavi tramite Dylan Dog , la sua creazione più famosa e popolare. L'ho letto sin dal primo numero e attraverso i vari speciali e gli almanacchi l'ho seguito durante la mia adolescenza fino alla prima giovinezza quando, in seguito al suo abbandono di fatto della serie, non ho più trovato interesse per quei fumetti. Perchè a me piaceva Sclavi, non tanto Dylan Dog in sè per sè, che, a mio parere, senza la scrittura di Sclavi si riduce a ben poca cosa.

Qua voglio dire qualcos'altro anche, a mio parere la sua produzione letteraria andrebbe rivalutata , riletta e considerata forse con un'attenzione diversa, penso a romanzi come DellaMorte dellaMore , Nero e La circolazione del sangue .
Imitarlo non serve, la vera sperimentazione deve essere originale, ma nel mio piccolo tengo presente la sua lezione. Oggi nel fumetto italiano manca però una scrittura come la sua, che sia speciale e che sappia parlare allo stesso tempo ad un pubblico molto ampio. Diversamente oggi i narratori a fumetti più originali e significativi restano quasi sempre ristretti, fatta qualche rara eccezione, all'interno di una riserva indiana. Non riusciamo più ad essere originali e popolari?

Tutto ebbe inizio, almeno per me, nella primavera del 1996. Allora non avevo ancora compiuto vent'anni ma la letteratura era già al centro dei miei interessi. In quel tempo senza alcuna ragione precisa iniziai a interessarmi alla fantascienza . Asimov non riusciva ad appassionarmi. Preferivo qualcosa di più viscerale. Un amico appassionato di science-fiction mi indicò allora un classico Urania che era appena uscito, si intitolava Il dottor Futuro : Philip K. Dick da quel giorno divenne uno dei miei scrittori preferiti.
Trovo sempre qualcosa di interessante in quelle storie, nella loro scrittura, che travalicano il genere e i suoi romanzi di tanto in tanto si affacciano tra le mie letture da Il disco di fiamma a La svastica sul sole , da I simulacri a Ubik , passando per La penultima verità , Follia per sette clan , Illusione di potere , Noi Marziani , In senso inverso , Scorrete lacrime disse il poliziotto e Labirinto di morte all'inarrivabile up and immense Valis Trilogy. E cosa c'entra Philip K. Dick col mio nuovo fumetto? Non c'entra ma in qualche modo c'entra.

Leggo fumetti sin da quand'ero bambino, Geppo e Topolino erano i miei preferiti, da ragazzo poi ho letto di tutto da Spiderman a Batman, da Ken Parker a Dylan Dog. Crescendo scoprivo altri mondi a fumetti (la Vertigo - di cui ho scritto proprio qui qualche mese fa - gli argentini, i classici - Pratt, Buzzelli, Micheluzzi - e via via Giardino, Gipi, Toffolo, Bacilieri... e tanti altri ancora... ma se dovessi scegliere un personaggio che ricordo con particolare piacere tra le mie letture di fumetti di ragazzo credo che penserei subito a Mister NO. Ricordo che trovavo suoi albi da leggere pure dal barbiere dove andavo a tagliare i capelli, a disposizione dei clienti pending. Mi rendo conto che forse ricordare questi personaggi e un certo modo di fare fumetti rimane qualcosa di nostalgico. Tutto cambia, com'è giusto che sia. Probabilmente non esisterebbero lettori nè editori disposti più a scomettere un euro su qualcosa del genere (la stessa Bonelli ha chiuso la serie). Sicuramente c'è qualcosa in quei modi di raccontare che oggi non funziona più. Andrebbero aggiornati e rivisitati. Eppure c'è stato un tempo in cui bastava vedere un areo planare sopra la foresta amazzonica per sognare una grande Avventura a fumetti. Bei tempi, tuttosommato.

Ho frequentato le scuole elementari durante la prima metà degli anni ottanta. L'invasione nipponica in Italia era già iniziata da qualche annetto. Le emittenti televisive avevano iniziato a trasmettere i cartoni animati giapponesi. Se non ricordo male the first that I remember seeing were Grendizer and Mazinger . Nel 2006 la Tunuè pubblica il mio saggio Leggere Hugo Pratt . L'autore di Corto Maltese tra fumetto e letteratura. Negli anni poi sono venuti i soggetti e le sceneggiature, non sono mancate le recensioni e le segnalazioni per Leggere Hugo Pratt però, credetemi, la vita di un autore può avere dei momenti davvero grigi dettati da cause che spesso non dipendono nemmeno dalla propria volontà ma da quella altrui o dal semplice e incontrollabile caso (un progetto per un fumetto che non va in porto, una tua idea che alle tue spalle viene copiata dagli altri - che fanno pure gli indifferenti - un libro che salta all'ultimo momento...), ebbene in questi casi ecco che in qualche modo il buon HP mi manda un segnale di incoraggiamento.
Giusto ieri nello studio di un amico mi trovavo a sfogliare l'ultima edizione dei fumetti di Corto Maltese (in particolare il volume numero 9 - Suite caribeana ) che escono in abbinamento ai periodici Rizzoli-Corriere della Sera ed ecco che all'interno dell'apparato redazionale curato da Fabio Licari a pag. 4 leggo quanto segue " In cerca di una chiave di comprensione moderna, ordinata e sintetica dell'opera prattiana suggerisco Leggere Hugo Pratt (Tunuè, 2006), saggio ben scritto da Giovanni Marchese ".
In questi casi il morale spicca un salto in alto e ritorni a credere che presto o tardi gli obiettivi saranno raggiunti.
